Pernera in Cyprus is probably not one of the best known resorts on the East coast but it is certainly one of the
nicest. Nestling below a hill this pretty little town has plenty to offer and holiday makers return there year
after year. The main street sweeps right down to the sea front where there are several sandy bays protected by
stone outcrops.
These are perfect for bathing and snorkeling in the warm crystal clear Mediterranean waters. Being so well
protected these bays are great for families with small children and there is plenty of shallow water for the little
ones to paddle in. In essence Pernera is first and formost a beach holiday resort and the bigger hotels actually
front right onto the bays. Lovers of water sports will have plenty of activities to get their teeth into including
wind surfing and water skiing to name just a couple.
If you fancy a Cyprus boat trip Pernera is the place to be with its bustling harbor you will be spoilt for
choice. Everything from leisurely cruises to heart stopping power boat rides can be booked there. Or maybe you
prefer to just relax and watch the world go by with a nice cool drink.
If so there is a great waterfront cafe right on Penera harbor where you can take in that beautiful view over the
Mediterranean Ocean. On clear days you can see right across to Famagusta and the peninsula of Northern Cyprus.
Several organized sea fishing trips also sail from the harbor catering for all levels including first timers so
you could even catch your own dinner. If you fancy experiencing the thrill of a ship under real sail there’s a full
sea going schooner and a modern catamaran that sails from Penera too.
Both these craft are available for party bookings and the latest trend appears to be floating wedding receptions
with a full buffet on board. Talking of weddings, Cyprus is one of the top places for that romantic beach wedding
and Pernera offers several great locations where couples can tie the knot. One of the most popular venues is the
Golden Coast hotel which overlooks Pernera harbour and fronts right onto the beautiful sandy beach. Couples have
the choice of holding the ceremony either under an ornate pergola or in the tiny church on the hotel grounds. The
church is set within a pretty courtyard with an ornamental fountain and well maintained gardens making it perfect
for those small iintimate wedding ceremonies.
There are several great hotels in Pernera of varied ratings right up to five star luxury should you want it. If
you prefer the freedom of a self catering holiday there are also some great apartment complexes dotted around the
resort too. The windmills holiday apartments are perfect for those that want to be right in the heart of
things.
The complex has a great restaurant bar and there is good family entertainment laid on every night throughout the
holiday season. All the major sports fixtures are shown on the many wide screen TV’s and even the latest film
releases are shown in the early evenings so the kids will be happy too. Talking of the little one’s, there’s a
pizza hut and southern fried chicken outlet in Pernera too so even the fast food enthusiast will be happy.
Eating out in Pernera is a gastronomic delight and the only problem is that you won’t have time to sample every
single restaurant. There’s everything from Chinese to Mexican and traditional Cypriot meze houses. If you like home
from home cooking the Knights pub is a must visit either for a full English breakfast or a traditional Sunday lunch
and a whole lot more besides. In fact many visitors to Pernera are so impressed with the food at Knights pub that
they eat there every night of their holiday. Another great restaurant a few yards further up the road is the Gordon
Blue. This friendly family owned eatery serves a varied menu of traditional and more exotic dishes at very
reasonable prices. With so much to offer holiday makers it is hardly surprising that they return year after year to
Pernera in Cyprus.
